The Old Machias Chapel is undergoing a renovation!
Construction Updates
Pat Rowe (PR Construction) has finished the main roof. The old roofing was removed and the roof sheathed with OSB before putting down tarpaper and then asphalt shingles. Cost ~$13K
Garth Williams (Garth Williams Construction) has removed and replaced the bell tower/entry framing members that were damaged by water intrusion, rot and termites. Initial bid of ~$20K includes repairs to the structure, insulation and painting the exterior.
The bell tower gables have been re-roofed and the steeple will retain its old shakes for the time being.
Funding and Donation Status
The congregation in voting to approve this project authorized the board to spend $20K out of current general funds. At a special congregational meeting this fall an additional $10K was approved for the project to close the building for the winter and we have received $2365 in donations as of October 16th.
The church office is presently taking names and phone numbers of parties interested in acquiring the hanging light fixtures.
